1522 1st Avenue - New York, NY
PROJECT VOIDED SLAB ACHIEVEMENTS:
Cobiax USA voided slabs were selected by the design team and allowed a reduction in weight of approximately 30% resulting in eliminating approximately 1,150 cubic yards of concrete or about 2,330 Tons.
The use of Cobiax voided slabs also resulted in a more environmentally friendly building through elimination of approximately 248 Tons of CO² by removing concrete and associated high energy intensive Portland cement.
1522 First Avenue, a 30-story medical office building in the Yorkville section of Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Designed by Perkins Eastman and developed by Extell Development Company, the structure consists of 400,000 sf of Class A office space and retail space on the ground floor and cellar levels. The Hospital for Special Surgery will occupy 200,000 sf across the first eight stories of the building. The voided slab system covered 125,940 sf, approximately 54% of the gross floor area starting on the 2nd floor.
